Progress:
Due to the lack of photos in the first few blogs, I made it a goal to find more pictures for this blog post. Photos were very hard to track down since most of the photos taken back then were in Houston, Texas where my Dad had grown up. Instead I was able to trace back his past with him during our trip to Texas during Thanksgiving break. I was given the opportunity to visit his old town Beaumont and where he first stayed in when he got off the plane in Texas. Down below will be some pictures of where he used to live.
I did this by searching up his old addresses and traveling to them while we were staying in Texas. The drive was about 3-4 hours long.
Reflection:
Visiting the neighborhood was a very long process. The trip took up about half of the day. I felt a sense of loss during this trip because when we first stopped at the land where he first stayed at and to our dismay only a a tree stood in its place, I could feel his disappointment. The trip was very rewarding, we were able to retrace back a lot of these places and when his face lit up at the sight of his home(s), I felt relieved. It was his moment to look back and shine. It was all about him. He doesn't have enough time to focus on himself and through this trip he was able to. He was able to rekindle a relationship and it was a happy day for him. Going through all of the schools he had gone to and revisiting his homes, I felt like a true historian! Retracing back someone's life is more fun than I thought it would be. At first, I had dreaded this trip but after it I am so glad that I did it.
